Frequently asked questions
How is FD interest calculated?+
Most banks use compound interest, added to your deposit every quarter. The calculator uses quarterly compounding, which is the most common method for FDs in India.
Is FD interest taxable?+
Yes. FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate. Banks deduct TDS when interest crosses the threshold set by the Income Tax Department.
Can I withdraw an FD before maturity?+
Usually yes, but most banks charge a premature-withdrawal penalty and pay a lower rate. Tax-saving FDs have a 5-year lock-in.
Is there an alternative to an FD without a lock-in?+
Liquid mutual funds, like Bachatt Insta Fund, aim for FD-like returns and let you withdraw anytime. They are not bank deposits and their returns are market-linked.
